Pre-Shoot Tips
Our photographers have all been carefully chosen for their ability to make even the most camera-shy subject shine in front of the lens, but there are a few things you can do to help create outstanding results:
- Dress for the job you want. Business suits always make the right impression. Steer clear of wrinkled shirts, souvenir t-shirts, short pants and harsh makeup. Your photo will represent you at a business meeting so make sure you dress for the shoot as you would dress for a professional appointment.
- Our photographers recommend dark outfits over light ones. Dark colors work especially well in black and white photographs.
- Stay away from large prints, stripes, writings or patterns unless they are monochromatic. Wardrobe choices should be natural fabrics and simple patterns. Wool always works well.
- Let your personality and eyes do the talking, not the clothing. Your clothes are important but it's your expression that carries your personality and your message.
- Ask questions! If you have a special idea you'd like to discuss or questions for the photographer, feel free to ask before the shoot!
What to wear:
We recommend you bring a few outfits with you; the photographer will be able to advise which is the best outfit for the shoot. If you purchase our silver or gold packages, you can also switch your outfit to get an extra "look".
Men:
- A dark blue or black dress shirt will usually work great.
- Wearing a tie and a suit is recommended but not necessary.
- No Hawaiian shirts!
- No t-shirts.
- No tight shirts.
- No busy, crazy patterns.
Women:
- Don't show too much skin.
- Wear something comfortable.
- Keep it professional but fun.
- No big or busy patterns.
- No t-shirts.
- Soft, dark V-necks look good.
- Black always works, and white hardly at all.
Poses:
Your photographer will know how to pose you so that your body language looks friendly and welcoming. In general though, try to:
- Relax. A photography session is fun — enjoy the experience!
- Smile!
- Look directly at the camera in most of the photos.
- Avoid playful or "funny" poses. They're rarely appropriate for business photos. Keep it simple.
Props?
For business photos, we recommend that you avoid using props. They tend to look a bit cheesy.
Hair & Makeup
Women:
We strongly recommend that you let a professional do your hair and makeup. Most of our photographers work with a make-up artist. Ask them to set up an appointment for you at the time of the shoot.
Men:
We don't think most men need hair or makeup services. If you have any skin imperfections, we suggest you order a photo retouching service. Our expert re-touchers will digitally enhance your photo while keeping it totally natural-looking.
A day before the session:
Don't party the night before. Get plenty of sleep so you look rested, not "partied out".
